TitleIce cream recalled for unlabeled ingredients
Release Date4/18/2008

Agriculture and Forestry Commissioner Mike Strain is notifying consumers that two codes of Private Selection Light Churned Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream in 1.75-quart containers has been recalled and Department of Agriculture and Forestry inspectors will be in stores making sure it is removed from the shelves.

The codes on the ice cream are: DEC0308 8070 and DEC0308 8080. The ice cream was sold in Kroger stores in Louisiana, Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Kansas, Kentucky, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, South Carolina, Tennessee and Texas. The “sell by” date on the product is Dec. 3, 2008.

“Our Food Quality Services and Weights and Measures inspectors are regularly in grocery stores so they will be working with the retailer to ensure none of the ice cream is still in the freezer,” Strain said. “The ice cream is not contaminated; however it does contain ingredients not listed on the label. Those ingredients could cause a severe reaction in anyone allergic to them.”

According to the recall notification issued by the Food and Drug Administration, the ingredients not listed on the label are eggs, soy and wheat. The FDA also said no illnesses have been reported. Other Private Selection ice cream products are not affected by this recall.

Customers are encouraged to return the product to their Kroger store for a full refund. Anyone with questions or concerns may call Inter-American Products at 1-800-697-2448.
