Reportable Diseases

In order to improve the protection of the animals and poultry populations from the effects of contagious diseases, all veterinarians licensed in the state of Louisiana are required by law to report to the State Veterinarian, by telephone, fax, or electronic mail within 24 hours after diagnosis or tentative diagnosis, the occurrence or suspected occurrence of the following contagious diseases or symptoms: including but not limited to 

Louisiana’s reportable diseases must be reported to the State Veterinarian prior to diagnosis, in other words, as soon as it ends up in a differential list.

Classical Swine Fever (USDA [pdf] / OIE))
Anthrax (OIE)
Any vesicular conditions
All equine encephalomyelitis conditions
transmissible spongiform encephalopathies (including chronic wasting disease, scrapie, bovine spongiform encephalopathy

Tuberculosis
Bovine Trichomoniasis (Merck Veterinary Manual)
Brucellosis (B. abortus, B. suis) (USDA / OIE
