The Information, Education and Urban Forestry Program is concerned with increasing public awareness of the value and management of Louisiana's natural resources and the need for improved forest management and protection from insects, diseases and fire.
Program emphasis is placed on:
1) educating landowners about profitable timber management activities and available departmental assistance;
2) promoting good stewardship of both urban and rural forest resources for soil, water, air, wildlife, and aesthetic benefits;
3) encouraging management of urban area natural resources to improve their attractiveness to both existing and prospective residents and businesses;
4) supporting efforts to attract new wood-based industries and expand product manufacturing diversity within the state; and
5) educating classroom teachers and other educators about Louisiana’s forest resources to increase their awareness and knowledge of the forest environment through Project Learning Tree, a national environmental education program.
6) Urban Forestry is the planning, establishment, management and protection of trees and forests in urban and rural communities. Urban forestry facilitates the education and training of people who live and work in urban environments.
